Living in Cheap Houses. Bon Pastor, 1929-2010

Imatge
Viure a les Cases Barates. Bon Pastor, 1929-2010

The restitution of the heritage and its exhibition show the key periods in the historical trajectory of a neighbourhood that is a magnificent exponent of the evolution of the city from the perspective of housing and the social cohesion of neighbourhoods throughout the twentieth century. The reconstruction work on four houses reflects the trajectory of the Bon Pastor neighbourhood between 1929 and 2010, with a short epilogue until 2022.

Each house shows one of the major periods that it has been possible to distinguish in the neighbourhood’s history:
House 1:
Scarcity (1929-1952). Life in the Cheap Houses between two dictatorships

House 2:
Developmentalism (1953-1974). An era of economic promotion and growth

House 3:
Reform (1975-1993). Change of era and of prospects

House 4:
Rethinking (1994-2010). End of cycle and new expectations

The thematic audiovisual capsules constituted from testimonies ratified by primary documentation are a prominent element in each of the houses. The project moves away from immersive restitutions to remain close to the archaeological data and historical research. The exhibition is completed by the documentary Bon Pastor, un segle de Barcelona and the collection of planning documents displayed in the multipurpose room.
