Although the children’s fire run is aimed especially at smaller children, it is not completely free of risk:

  • Take care of children and ensure they are a safe distance from the fire.
  • If the fire run goes past your home or shop, roll back the awnings, cover your windows and close your shutters.
  • And remember, follow the instructions of the stewards, so you can enjoy a safer festival!

Concert with the Catalan Federation of Choral Entities

Avinguda de la Catedral
Saturday 8 at 7.30 pm

The Basque choir Ama Lur (Mother Earth) from Salou was founded in 1992. It is based on men’s a capella voices arranged in four chords of first tenors, second tenors, baritones and basses. The choir was formed by a group of people from the Basque Country who had moved to Catalonia for work reasons. They have a modern musical repertoire with choreographies that allow the audience to enjoy and participate in the anecdotes told throughout the concert.

The Orfeó Atlàntida is one of the oldest choirs in Catalonia, founded in 1926 in the Hostafrancs neighbourhood. The Orfeó Atlàntida Youth Choir was created in October 2012 with the goal of expanding the choir repertoire offered and giving young people a place to enjoy music. It offers a modern and engaging repertoire within an inspiring project that lays the groundwork to strengthen the present and shape the future of the Orfeó Atlàntida.

This choral concert is organised by the Barcelona branch of the Catalan Federation of Choral Groups. The federation includes more than 140 choral groups, and this year they’ll be presenting two groups with modern repertoires.

Santa Eulàlia Fire Run

Plaça Reial
Saturday 8 at 8 pm
Federació d’Entitats de Cultura Popular i Tradicional de la Barcelona Vella

Enjoy the fire festival in this year’s Santa Eulàlia festivities, a feast for your senses with drums, the smell of gunpowder and the light of the sparks. El Drac (dragon) of la Ciutat Vella, the Víbria (she-dragon) of Barcelona, la Tarasca (fire-demon) of Barcelona, the Mulassa (she-mule) of Barcelona, the Bou (ox) of Barcelona and the Arpella (harrier) and Dolphin of the Old Quarter will fill the streets with fire with the Devils of Kinta Forka and the Gothic Quarter and the Tarascaires.

The fire run will conclude with a spectacle of fireworks and bangers that will leave the entire audience at Plaça de Sant Jaume speechless, giving way to the concert and the night of festivities that follows

Route: Plaça Reial, Carrer de Colom, la Rambla, Carrer de Ferran and Plaça de Sant Jaume (ending at around 8.45 pm).

PLEASE NOTE:

The fire festival is one of the most entertaining events of the Santa Eulàlia celebrations but it is important to take every precaution. If you wish to participate, don’t forget that:

  • You will need cover your head, wear a neckerchief and long sleeves and trousers. Always wear clothes made from cotton and not from synthetic materials. You should wear comfortable footwear so that you can run when necessary.
  • Be particularly careful if you are with small children and keep a safe distance from the fire. Don’t let go of children’s hands, and remember there is a special fire run for kids with fewer fireworks.
  • If the fire run goes past your home or shop, roll up the awnings, cover your windows and close your shutters.
  • No alcohol or glass: while the fire run is taking place, avoid alcohol. And if you are carrying a drink, make sure it is not in a glass bottle or cup. Broken glass is dangerous.
  • Do not forget that the fire run is a lot of fun, but if you do not follow the basic safety rules, it can also be dangerous. Join in the festival but enjoy it sensibly!
  • Remember to always follow the instructions of the stewards, who will be well identified.

Esbart Ciutat Comtal

With the Esbart Ciutat Comtal, you’ll discover the story and legend of Santa Eulàlia in a unique setting: the inside of the Barcelona Cathedral, above the crypt where the saint's relics are kept. Through music and dance, the show pays tribute to the life of Santa Eulàlia, tells about her martyrdoms and celebrates the values of freedom, equality and justice.

Under the direction of the choreographer Lluís Calduch, and with music by the composer Francesc Cassú, Eulàlia recreates the saint's life from her profession of faith to her crucifixion, including her martyrdoms, through dance sequences, gestural performance skits and compositions with choreographic movements that draw from the folkloric and religious expressions of Catalan folk culture.
