Culturopolis

CULTUROPOLIS will be held on Barcelona's Avinguda del Paral·lel. The former Sala Barts, now called Casa de la Música Paral·lel 62, and El Molino, will be the two venues used for the conference activities. On Saturday 19 November, the CULTUROPOLIS programme will take to the streets of Barcelona to celebrate and exercise cultural rights with all of the city’s citizens.

Locating CULTUROPOLIS on Avinguda del Paral·lel demonstrates our desire to give spotlight reflection on and practice of cultural rights, honouring the history of this iconic street that has been a reference point for culture and leisure in the Catalan capital since the late 19th century.

Avinguda del Paral·lel is also a meeting point and crossroads between the neighbourhoods of El Poble-sec, El Raval and Sant Antoni.

CULTUROPOLIS captures the history of Paral·lel as a cultural landmark, with a view to recovering its former glories with a fresh, modern twist.

El Molino (C/ Vila i Vilà, 99) opened its doors at the end of the 19th century, and became a local and international point of reference for cabaret and music hall.

The Casa de la Música Paral·lel 62 (Avinguda del Paral·lel, 62) occupies a building that first opened in 1909 as the Gran Teatre Espanyol.
