Festival of traditional dance groups in Barcelona

The Obra del Ballet Popular, founded in Barcelona in 1950, is celebrating its 75th anniversary. And to mark the occasion, it is bringing the big Festival d’Esbarts (Festival of traditional dance groups) to the La Mercè festival. 

In this way it will bring back the image of those times, between the 1960s and 1990s, when traditional dance groups from all over the country would gather in the Catalan capital. The Cobla Sant Jordi-Ciutat de Barcelona will be providing the music for a gathering of eighteen traditional dance groups from all over Catalonia, each of which will perform a different dance. The participants include the Esbart Català de Dansaires, Esbart Manresà and Esbart Dansaire Rubí, three hundred-year-old entities that will play a leading role in this big festival of traditional dance.
