Electronic post-diaspora – Portugal / Cape Verde

They’ve described themselves as “a collective formed between Cape Verde and Lisbon, searching for lost voices in the diaspora”. A recent and somewhat enigmatic entity, they released their début album Racodja in 2024. Evoking the voices of the diaspora’s past, present and future, they create a living, ever-evolving sound in which the warmth of funaná, the swing of semba, the syncopation of kuduro and afrohouse and other heartfelt hybrids flow through field recordings, gliding synthesisers, vocal samples and an unstoppable surge of infectious rhythms. All in a quest to find new ways of expressing – through sound, poetry and performance – the tension between physical and emotional spaces that feel both intimately close and impossibly distant.
