Dracs, cuques, mulasses, víbries [dragons, insects, she-mules, she-dragons] and all sorts of fantastical, mythological beasts created in Barcelona take part in this festival, the quietest and most popular moment featuring the fire beasts. It's not exactly a fire-less procession, because there are a few sparks, and even though there are only a few it seems like it's always a good idea to be careful. But there are no firecrackers or fireworks in this parade, so it's a bit more of a relaxed experience with the beasts that are harder to see at other points in the festival. Want an excuse to come? The Bee beast (a symbol of the guest city, Manchester) is debuting at La Mercè. It was made by the Barcelona artisans Pau Reig and Dolors Sants with the advice of folk culture groups from the British city.
