L’OBC a la Mercè
Symphonic music - Barcelona
The Barcelona Symphony and Catalan National Orchestra (OBC) returns to La Mercè with a free concert open to all. This year, directed by Diego Martin-Etxebarria, they present a programme full of vibrant, colourful pieces that take us from the distant soundscapes of Sibelius’s Finlandia to the exultant virtuosity of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol. The orchestra will also evoke traditional Hungarian music with Kodály’s Dances of Galánta, and delve into the mystery of Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain. The concert will open with the delightful Temps de matinada by Leonora Milà, a child prodigy from Vilanova i la Geltrú who composed it in 1948, at the tender age of 6.
