Σtella (pronounced "Stella”, but written with a Greek sigma), the stage name of Greek singer, painter, visual artist and performance artist Stella Chronopoulou, is the most modern and internationally appealing face of Greek popular music. She had focused on painting until, almost by accident, she began composing during a long sea crossing. Her pop songs explore the pain and ecstasy of love, as well as personal change and growth. You can hear it in her new album Adagio, released in 2025, which this time includes two songs in Greek. Greek instruments and synthesisers add a playful tone to an album steeped in the country’s musical tradition, including a traditional song and a version of Ta Vimata, a cult classic from the 1970s.
