Geographer

(Barcelona, 1957). Specialising in urban studies and territorial planning, he has served as a professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He has been director of the Institut d’Estudis Metropolitans de Barcelona [Metropolitan Studies Institute of Barcelona] (1988-1999). In addition, he has been a member of the Catalan Parliament (1999-2003) and Secretary for Territorial Planning of the Generalitat Government of Catalonia (2003-2011). 

Among other works, he has authored La ciudad en movimiento: Crisis social y respuesta ciudadana [The city on the move: Social crisis and citizen response] (Díaz & Pons, 2015), Cities in the 21st Century (Routledge, 2016, co-edited with Renata Mele) and Barrios y crisis. Crisis económica, segregación urbana e innovación social en Cataluña [Neighbourhoods and crisis. Economic crisis, urban segregation and social innovation in Catalonia] (Tirant, 2018, coordinated with Ismael Blanco). He is also a full member of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans [Institute of Catalan Studies].
