Presentation and discussion of the Speculative Urban Futures (SUrF) research project, co-funded by Erasmus+ Barcelona Multiplier Event

SUrF is an educational project that explores the role and purpose of design in shaping contemporary urban reality. The project aims to develop, test and share new design methods and educational tools that help create the conditions needed to achieve key reforms and changes that respond to the demands and challenges of the 21st century. The project will be implemented through five pilot packages, which will include all the necessary educational materials to replicate each course in other academic, civic and corporate settings.

The project is composed of a team of architects, designers and researchers from four European universities (Elisava, ENSCi-Paris, TU Delft, University of Split) and the Estonian Association of Architects.

The presentation will consist of two main parts. Firstly, members of the five international teams will briefly present five methodologies developed since 2023, applying speculative design tools to current realities to reimagine desirable future cities. Secondly, a group of master’s degree and PhD students will give a PechaKucha presentation on speculative urban futures projects.
