Rethinking Construction for a Post-Carbon World

In the context of the climate crisis, where construction accounts for nearly 40% of global CO₂ emissions, architecture must reconsider its practices. Rehabilitation is framed as a key response to resource scarcity and urban expansion, fostering a model that prioritises transformation over demolition and reconstruction.

In this talk, the architect Vincent Lavergne will discuss rehabilitation as a new architectural paradigm, combining heritage preservation, waste reduction and the integration of innovative and sustainable solutions. From converting factories into social housing to modernising historical monuments with low-impact technologies, specific examples will be presented that showcase the potential of this cultural revolution.
