from 11 am to 5 pm (Galop de la Mercè, at 6:30 pm)
Fancy taking a tour of Catalan festivals without having to leave Barcelona? Well, this is your event. Mercè Dansa is a sample of living dances from around the country, here to show us the good and the best of their festivals.
Furthermore, this year the event is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its first edition. For this reason, various unique dances will be taking part, invited by the Esbart Català de Dansaires dance association, which organises the festival. The dances will include: the Ball de Canuts i Rams d’Agramunt, the Ball de Figuetaires de Vilafranca del Penedès, the Ball de Teixidores de Sant Andreu de Palomar, the Ball de Mocadors de Sant Climent de Llobregat and the Ball dels Aristòcrates de Molins de Rei, among others.
Furthermore, after the conclusion of the afternoon session, there will also be a commemoration of the 25 + 1 anniversary of the Galop de la Mercè, a melody that closes the day, which was composed by Jesús Ventura, who passed away a few months ago. To celebrate the anniversary and pay a heartfelt tribute to Jesús Ventura, the organisers hope that the Mercè Dansa closing ceremony will attract more people than ever.
So, grab your handkerchief... and dance!
