Designing with nature

This activity aims to demonstrate that biophilia is not just a passing trend, but a fundamental necessity for health and wellbeing. Through an interactive talk supported by visuals and the presentation of case studies, the principles of biophilic design will be introduced from a multisensory perspective. Participants will learn why biophilic design is essential in architecture and how our built environments directly influence our physical, mental, and emotional health. The session will explore key principles based on neuroscience and scientific research, highlighting the need to reconnect with nature through design.

During the activity, group reflection exercises will help identify opportunities for biophilic improvements in the spaces we inhabit daily, as well as offer practical tips for adopting healthier habits. A practical example will also be provided, including a biophilic diagnosis of a space and strategies for transforming it—focusing on creating sensory discharge spaces and incorporating natural, sensory elements.

The talk is designed for both the general public and professionals, regardless of prior knowledge, who are interested in incorporating a science-based approach and biophilic design into their projects or personal spaces.
