Experts from Berlin, Rome and Barcelona discuss sustainability and justice in urban practice

As part of the Ecological Futures initiative, ARCH+ magazine and the Goethe-Institut bring together urban, art, and culture professionals alongside local residents from various cities to collaborate within specific local contexts. The goal is to develop transformative ideas and practices that contribute to a socially and ecologically sustainable urban future, serving as inspiration for other regions.

The project is grounded in four core principles for social and ecological urban practice: inventory, which identifies both problems and opportunities; activation, which fosters agency and collective imagination; intervention, understood as the reproduction and co-production of space; and consolidation, which focuses on knowledge transfer and the creation of infrastructure.

In Barcelona, Ecological Futures will bring together participants from the project (ARCH+ and MAAM Metropoliz) with local partners -such as LaCol, Idra (Urban Research Institute of Barcelona), and Plataforma per la conservació de les tres Xemenies de Sant Adrià- to explore cooperative urban development strategies. The aim is to strengthen the link between ecological sustainability, social justice, and urban transformation, both in Barcelona and in other international contexts.
