Visit the exhibition that brings together the panels and models of the winning and finalist proposals of the international architecture competition for the Montjuïc fairgrounds.
The 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition had a significant impact on the city and marked a key point in its history. It was conceived as a celebration of industry, technology and culture, and the city became aware of its greatness and capabilities, while undergoing a profound urban, economic and social transformation.
On the occasion of this anniversary (1929-2029), the Government of Catalonia, the Barcelona City Council and Fira de Barcelona set up the Centenary Commission, which in May 2024 promoted the call for an international architecture competition with three distinct lots. The three lots of the competition include the construction of a large Multifunctional Palace at the current Congress Palace, the Palace of Communications and the modification of Plaça de l’Univers; the creation of a new Congress Palace at the current Alfons XIII Palace; and the transformation of the former Dress Palace to house the Fira Barcelona Innovation Hub (FBIH).
The exhibition collects and presents this competition’s winning and finalist projects and shows how architecture competitions help promote quality, innovative, socially dignifying, environmentally sustainable and economically viable architecture and design, both for ordinary, everyday spaces and the most unique and extraordinary spaces.
You can see the exhibition until July 20th, from Thursday to Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with the option to consult or be accompanied by an expert who will be available in the room. Additionally, guided tours will be offered every Friday at 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM. On July 4th, 11th, and 18th, tours with accessibility resources for visually impaired people will be held, and on July 11th at 5:00 PM, there will be a sign language screening. Admission is free.
