Hailing a metropolitan taxi with a mobile phone
The AMB Mobilitat app now offers Picmi Taxi, a service enabling users to hail a taxi with their mobile, with nearby taxis receiving an alert. The new function on the app is designed to replace the usual action of flagging taxis down by hand, making life easier for users and taxi drivers alike.

When there is a request, the system alerts nearby taxi drivers and one of them must accept it. The assignation algorithm takes into account factors such as the arrival time to reach the customer and whether the cab is parked at a nearby taxi rank.
Users will be informed how long a vehicle will takes to reach the collection point and can accept or reject the service. Once accepted, the customer will be notified that the cab is on its way and be able to track its location in real time, see the booking code, vehicle model, number plate and licence number. When the vehicle reaches the pick-up point, the customer will get an alert on their phone.
Other service options include the possibility of knowing the rough cost of the route the user expects to use, with the IMET price simulator, and requesting adapted taxis for people with reduced mobility or vehicles with capacity for more passengers. Bookings and payments will not be possible with the app.
If a customer is in an area where there are no taxis nearby, the app will refer them to the taxi radio services registered with the IMET and operating in the metropolitan area, so that they can request one.
Rollout of the network of micro taxi ranks
The project is accompanied with the creation of a network of micro taxi ranks in metropolitan cities. The first 15 micro stops have been created this year, with the other 140 in the project to get signage in 2023. These come in addition to the 274 existing taxi ranks in Barcelona.
