If you are thinking about moving to Barcelona with your pet, you will have to deal with certain matters before you arrive.
Pets must comply with different entry requirements, such as having electronic identification with an authorised microchip and having obtained the health document provided by vets in the country of origin. These requirements are in place to prevent the spread of potentially contagious diseases and ensure the protection of human and animal health.
Once you are here, you must register your pet whether it is a dog, cat, ferret or wild animal in captivity. This register is managed by Barcelona City Council to promote responsible pet ownership and avoid lost and abandoned pets.
Should you have a dog that is considered potentially dangerous, you must also get a specific licence.
