Technological events in Barcelona in 2022

Once again, Barcelona is reaffirming itself as a hub with an international appeal for meetings relating to technology and digital innovation. World-renowned events such as the Mobile World Congress and the Smart City Expo are held in the city.

Tech events aren’t just for displaying trends, they’re also gateways to new contacts, learning and job opportunities. Learn more about some of the conventions you can’t afford to miss in 2022 in Barcelona.

Mobile World Congress Barcelona

When: 28 February – 3 March

Where: Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue

The most influential international meeting point for connectivity will provide a showcase for the latest products and technologies and, above all, a view into the future of mobile phones. The cloud, fintechs, artificial intelligence and climate change will be some of the main topics. Major global companies will take part to share their new products and reflect on future developments.

4 Years From Now (4YFN)

When: 28 February – 3 March

Where: Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue

As with the previous event, 4 Years From Now, the platform for business, entrepreneurship and innovation that focuses on the world of start-ups, will be held alongside the Mobile World Congress. Hundreds of tech companies will display their products, gain international visibility and connect with investors, corporations and other entrepreneurs.

Mobile Week Barcelona

When: 28 March – 3 April

Where: Barcelona (different venues)

The Mobile family is complemented by a week of free activities designed to invite reflection on the impact of technology on everyday life and bring it closer to the general public. The initiative will address the major challenges and opportunities posed by technology, particularly in relation to culture, quality of life, privacy, ethics, sustainability and security.

Advanced Factories Expo & Congress

When: 29 – 31 March

Where: Barcelona International Convention Centre

The Barcelona Forum will host this exhibition devoted to Industry 4.0. It’s the second-largest trade fair on industrial automation in Europe, and it plays a key role in the implementation of smart factories. The convention will offer disruptive solutions in areas such as the digitalisation of industry, robotics, 3D printing and advanced manufacturing.

OFFF Barcelona

When: 5 – 7 May

Where: Disseny Hub Barcelona

The design museum will once again be hosting Barcelona’s international festival of creativity, design and digital culture. This community will welcome everyone who wants to learn, participate and find inspiration over three days of talks, activities and shows. Innovative talents and international creators will share their experiences and trends in the field of design.

ISE Barcelona

When: 10 – 13 May

Where: Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue

Integrated Systems Europe is the largest trade fair for the integration of audiovisual systems and experiences in the world. Brands such as Google, HP, Microsoft and Logitech will be attending, with six tech sections in an area displaying specialised solutions. The most innovative technology will be present at the event, which will feature large screenings, virtual reality, streaming media and much, much more.

IoT Solutions World Congress

When: 10-12 May

Where: Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue

This is the flagship event for the Internet of Things. This year it brings together the major global players involved in the digital transformation of companies and the application of technologies to the real world, including the IoT, 5G, artificial intelligence and quantum computing. The event will be held in partnership with the Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress.

JBCN Conf

When: 18 – 20 July

Where: Barcelona International Convention Centre

Non-profit organisation Barcelona Java Users Group will host this congress dedicated to the world of Java and related technologies. Enthusiasts of this programming language will come together to pool their knowledge, discuss innovation and present their latest work to the sector. The schedule includes talks and practical sessions, as well as the JBCN4Kids space with workshops for children and teenagers.

Jump2digital

When: 10 November

Where: Llotja de Mar

This is the flagship event for digital talent in the city of Barcelona at which companies from the entire ecosystem have the opportunity to connect with new digital talent. Talks, hackathons, speed dating and workshops are just some of the activities that will be held and enlivened by music, experiences with technology and gastronomic variety featuring food trucks. It will be a major celebration of digital talent to wave goodbye to 2022.

Smart City Expo World Congress

When: 15 -17 November

Where: Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue

One of the most eagerly awaited events takes place at the end of the year. Devoted to promoting debate on smart cities, this congress offers a hybrid format to connect with more than 700 cities around the world interested in the technological revolution, urban innovation and international partnerships. The exhibitors and speakers will offer their views on the transformation that metropolises are undergoing.

Pending confirmation are other important technological events such as Sònar+D, the most tech-friendly congress in the Sònar family, which explores innovation applied to creativity and art with a programme devoted to networking and inspiration. In the past, Sónar+D was held at the Sónar festival, which is on in the city from 16 to 18 June.

We should also watch out for Tech Spirit Barcelona, created spontaneously as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and already held twice. This is a meeting point for entrepreneurs, start-ups, investors, corporations and anyone else who doesn’t want to lose track of what’s going on in Barcelona’s technological ecosystem.
