At the Mercè's Diada Històrica Castellera, patron saint of the city, the Barcelona colla invites prestigious groups from outside the city, and this year the event is more special than ever. Usually, the Castellers de Barcelona perform alongside two highly renowned colles.

This year, due to the coincidence of the Historic Day with the start of Mondiacult, UNESCO’s conference on cultural policies and sustainable development, the number of invited colles increases to three: Minyons de Terrassa, Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls, and Castellers de Vilafranca — all three top-tier casteller formations.

Castells are much more than a Catalan tradition: since 2010, they have been part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. With their collective strength, balance, and courage, castells embody the values of a living culture that has crossed borders and earned global recognition.
