Route: Plaça Nova (start of the cercavila street parade at around 10.30 am). Plaça de Sant Jaume (end of the cercavila and stage performance at around 11 am).
A new Catalan tradition that originated from Czech sokols yet again shows the infinite possibilities of creating figures with human bodies as the only materials. The morning begins in Plaça Nova (10.30 am) with a cercavila to Plaça de Sant Jaume, where the performance will be held. Actually, the custom of Falcons in La Mercè began even before there was a local group, with guests invited from other towns. But the city has had its own group for some years now, the Falcons de Barcelona, a world-class group who have invited the Falcons de Llorenç del Penedès, the oldest group in Catalan-speaking lands still around today. They were founded in 1942 with the help of the now-defunct Falcons de Sant Vicenç dels Horts group. Of all the groups, the one from Sant Llorenç are the most faithful to the original sokol, with more acrobatic figures and pair exercise tables.
