Guided tour of a rationalist architecture icon: the Tuberculosis Dispensary

The Antituberculosis Dispensary (1934–38), designed by Josep Lluís Sert, Josep Torres i Clavé and Joan Baptista Subirana, is one of the key works of GATCPAC—the group of Catalan rationalist architects who, with the support of the Republican Generalitat, sought to transform Barcelona and its architecture.

The building addressed a critical public health need of its time through an efficient structural solution and a functional layout of blocks and levels that ensured natural light and ventilation.

It also stands out for its technical innovations, its pursuit of a new architectural aesthetic, and the influence of modern masters such as Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto.

This activity offers a rare opportunity to visit this significant building—normally closed to the public—and to explore the key elements and design concepts characteristic of Sert’s architecture and the GATCPAC movement.
