La tipuana és un arbre originari de l'Amèrica del Sud, que va ser introduït a la ciutat a inicis del segle XX. Actualment, és una de les espècies més comuns a la nostra ciutat. El conjunt el formen tres exemplars que es complementen estèticament amb la bonica plaça Sant Felip Neri. L'onada expansiva d'una bomba d'aviació destruí durant la Guerra Civil tres cases de la placeta, aleshores molt més reduïda. Havent desenrunat es van plantar les tipuanes. Reconstruïts els solars i fixades les actuals dimensions, les façanes aixecades -d'edificis de la Barcelona antiga- tancaren l'espai, la font i les tipuanes, i van crear un nou ambient, silenciós, poètic, històricament respectuós.
