For many years, when Barcelona residents said they were off to the ‘parc’, everyone knew they were referring to the Parc de la Ciutadella. Laribal, one of the first gardens on Montjuïc

In 1909 Barcelona City Council acquired the Josep Laribal i Lastortras family estate, on Montjuïc. The lawyer and journalist had died the year before and the Council wanted to start urbanising and landscaping the mountain, as the Catalans describe Montjuïc, with a view to organising what would eventually be the International Exhibition of 1929. The Umbracle in the Ciutadella Park

In the Ciutadella Park there is a spot where visitors can walk among plants which usually grow in tropical and subtropical forests, without even leaving Barcelona.
