Ball de Rams in Sant Andreu de Palomar

The Sant Andreu de Palomar Ball de Rams, a bouquet dance, had traditionally been performed during the neighbourhood's festa major [big annual festival], though it had disappeared by the end of the 19th century. It was revived in 2002 by the Esbart Maragall dance group, since when it has enjoyed large numbers of participants every year on the last Saturday before 30 November. Every year sees more and more couples spontaneously joining in, following the steps danced by Esbart Maragall around Plaça d'Orfila.

As it is a dance representing courtship, the ladies carry a fan while the men hold a bunch of flowers. During the dance, the men courteously present the bouquet to their partners.

A second, more formal and institutional performance of the Ball de Rams has appeared since 2012. Known as La Gala, it is held on the Sunday of the festa major, opposite the old town hall's gate. It is performed by a smaller number of dancers who are dressed in traditional costume. The district councillor and the festa major herald preside over La Gala, and it is they who present the flowers to the man in each pair during the dance.

To teach people the steps and to make the festival even more popular, the dance group has set up a committee that offers training to individuals and organisations.
