Colla Sardanista Xàldiga

The Colla Sardanista Xàldiga was set up in 1993 and forms part of the Grup Sardanista Maig. This group includes the Xamosa colles of children aged 5-11; the Maig adult colla, the main section; and the Dansaires de Maig, a colla  originally set up by young members but which, since 1999, has been the oldest section, with dancers over 40 years old. So the Colla Xàldiga is the youth section of this sardanista group. They have a full diary of exhibitions and two types of competition: punts lliures, where groups can add their own steps, and lluïment, where they have to demonstrate their dancing skills by performing set dances.

Over the years they have had a lot of success in both types. As for exhibition dances, they have been all round Catalonia and to some European cities. For example, they were in Budapest in August 2012 for the close of the 25th Aplec Internacional, where they danced a sardana in the air, suspended 30 metres above ground. They repeated this in Arenys de Munt (Maresme) a year later, at the opening ceremony for the 2013 Sardana Capital.
