Name changes for 21 railway stations

Public transport. The idea is to avoid confusion among users: the same name will be given to connecting stations, even where there are different operators, while repetition will be avoided between stations which are not connected.

Name changes are soon to be made to over twenty stations on the FGC, Metro, Rodalies and TRAM networks serving the metropolitan area, ten of them within the city of Barcelona, to give meaning to the entire public rail network as an integrated system. Besides matching the names of certain stations to the reality of their locations, particularly where there are municipal reasons or demands from local people, the idea is also to avoid any confusion among users due to the same name being used for connecting stations run by two different operators, and eliminating the repetition of names for two stations which are not linked.

The ATM, in line with the recommendations of its naming commission, which brings together transport administrations and operators, and with advice from the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, has approved the following changes:

  1. To match the reality of places:
  • The Drassanes metro station becomes La Rambla | Drassanes.
  • The Vall d’Hebron metro station becomes Vall d’Hebron | Sant Genís.
  • The Llucmajor metro station becomes Llucmajor | República.
  • The Congrés metro station becomes Congrés | Indians.
  • The Wellington tram stop becomes Wellington | UPF.
  1. Unification of names for intermodal stations:
  • The stations of Fabra i Puig (metro) and Sant Andreu Arenal (Rodalies) will be unified as Fabra i Puig. This means a change to the name for the Rodalies train station.
  • The stations of Sant Andreu (metro) and Sant Andreu Comtal (Rodalies) will be unified as Sant Andreu. This means a change to the name for the Rodalies train station.
  • The stations of Clot (metro) and Clot-Aragó (Rodalies) will be unified as El Clot. This means a change of name for both services.
  • The stations of Torre Baró | Vallbona (metro) and Torre Baró (Rodalies) will be unified as Torre Baró | Vallbona. This means a change to the name for the Rodalies train station.
  • In Terrassa, the stations of Terrassa Estació del Nord (FGC) and Terrassa (Rodalies) will be unified as Terrassa Estació del Nord. This means a change to the name for the Rodalies train station.
  • In Martorell, the stations of Martorell Central (FGC) and Martorell (Rodalies) will be unified as Martorell Central. This means a change to the name for the Rodalies train station.
  1. Distinction between unconnected stations:
  • In L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, the metro and Rodalies stations of Bellvitge will become, respectively, Bellvitge Rambla Marina and Bellvitge | Gornal.
  • In Rubí, the FGC and Rodalies stations of Rubí will become, respectively, Rubí Centre and Rubí Can Vallhonrat.
  • In Sant Cugat del Vallès, the FGC and Rodalies stations of Sant Cugat will become, respectively, Sant Cugat Centre and Sant Cugat Coll Favà.
  • In Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, the Rodalies station will become Santa Perpètua de Mogoda La Florida. The new station to be opened in the municipality will be called Santa Perpètua de Mogoda Riera de Caldes.

The local Rodalies train stations (operated by RENFE) within the municipality of Barcelona will be named internally by the operator by adding Barcelona in front of them, for example: Barcelona Clot-Aragó will become Barcelona El Clot.
