One of the most distinctive elements of the urban landscape of Barcelona are its yellow and black taxis. The taxi is a good option for travelling comfortably around the city in a sustainable and efficient way.

Over the last few years, the taxi fleet circulating in Barcelona and its metropolitan area has incorporated new hybrid, electric and natural gas vehicles to make journeys more sustainable and efficient and to avoid the emission of pollutants in the air. If you need a taxi service, remember that there are over 300 taxi ranks in Barcelona and the whole metropolitan area so that access to the service is more convenient.

The taxi fleet operating in Barcelona is managed by the Metropolitan Taxi Institute (IMET), an autonomous institution that reports to the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB). It focuses on the management and administration of the region’s taxi service and is the institution responsible for establishing the regulations governing the provision of the service.  All taxis are subject to the same regulations and charge the same fares.
