More agile and fewer stops. The new X3 XPRESBus will connect Av. Paral·lel with L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, definitively replacing the number 79 bus service (Pl. Espanya – Av. Carrilet). Designed to be one of the fastest on the TMB network, the X3 will pass through key points in the city such as the Anella Olímpica, C/ Foc, Fira de Barcelona and La Marina del Prat Vermell, connecting neighbourhoods and important economic hubs.

With 37 stops in all, this new route will improve mobility and the accessibility of this area, cutting the journey time and offering a quicker and more direct option for users between the two municipalities. The chair of TMB, Laia Bonet, pointed out that the circuit for the X3 is similar to the future route of the L2 metro line, once it is extended to Montjuïc, highlighting the efficiency of the new service: “The new express line offers a faster and more efficient service, facilitating sustainable mobility in the city”.

During its first 16 months in service, the new express bus will take a temporary diversion as a consequence of the long-term work on the FCC rail network in Pl. Espanya. The route will be diverted in the direction of L’Hospitalet, taking C/ Lleida and Av. Rius i Taulet before rejoining its usual route. Once the work is completed, the X3 will operate normally along its scheduled route.

The new service brings the number of express buses to three, consolidating a faster and more agile transport network for journeys between various key points in Barcelona and the metropolitan area. The X3 comes in addition to the X1, connecting Pl. Francesc Macià and Glòries, and the X2, connecting El Prat de Llobregat with Barcelona. With their flexible timetables and direct routes, these express lines help to improve connectivity and promote more efficient and sustainable mobility in the city.

The launch of the X3 represents a solid step in TMB’s commitment to sustainable mobility as it will feature hydrogen-powered vehicles, with cutting-edge technology that helps to cut pollutant emissions. At the same time, the new line means a significant improvement to the public transport service, in line with TMB’s strategy of offering faster, more efficient and environmentally friendly journeys for everybody.
