Catalan festival with the Gegants of Gràcia, the Bastoner dancers of Gràcia and the Tabalers of the Federació de Diables de Barcelona
The Catalan festival to be held on Saturday, 9 August, will include the participation of the Gegants of Gràcia, the Bastoner dancers of Gràcia and the tabalers of the Federació de Diables de Barcelona. The popular culture festival will start at 7.30 pm at Avinguda de la Catedral. It will combine various festival events through imaginary, dance and rhythm associated with fire.
It will be opened by the Bastoner dancers of Gràcia, an entity founded more than thirty years ago. Their performance is bound to include the ‘Virolet’ dance, their most emblematic piece. Pau and Llibertat, the Gegants of Gràcia will also be there, representing two bourgeois of the 19th century. Finally, the Tabalers of the Federació de Diables de Barcelona will close the festival. This association is formed by percussion groups of various entities.
The Catalan Festival is a small popular-culture event which is held in the city centre every Saturday during the summer. The aim is to show tourists the most authentic Catalan traditions and demonstrate the wealth of Barcelona popular culture. For this reason a large number of city organisations take part: castellers, the Falcons de Barcelona and the Moixiganga dancers, sardana ring-dance and other traditional dance groups, gegants(giants) and bestiari (dragons and other beastly figures).
