On the occasion of the exhibition dedicated to Eugenio Barba and the Odin Teatret at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, a playwright equal parts Milanese and Barcelona-born lectures about what is hidden behind an acting method.

A major name in contemporary dramaturgy, Roberto Fratini will make you reflect a little on acting and, more specifically, on the twentieth-century acting methods used by performers, such as the famous ‘Stanislavsky method’. Perhaps, as he will explain, methods like this have been the soft vanguard of the self-exploitative regime that has reshaped today's sophisticated, elegant subjectivity.

Founded in 1964, the Danish and Norwegian company Odin Teatret is renowned worldwide.   Its founder, the Italian Eugenio Barba, is considered one of the most innovative figures in modern theatre. Between last April and September, La Virreina Centre de la Imatge showcased the exhibition Autopenetració. [Self-penetration] Eugenio Barba / Odin Teatret, dedicated to him and analysing the company’s activities from 1971 to 1979.   It is curated by Roger Bernat.   This exhibition is accompanied this July by this lecture at the Centre de les Arts Lliures of the Joan Brossa Foundation, and by Autoritat [Authority], a production by Roger Bernat and performer Søren Evinson.

Roberto Fratini, playwright, teacher and dance theorist, has participated in many projects shown at the Barcelona Grec Festival, working with artists ranging from Roger Bernat (Numax-Fagor-Plus; 2014; No se registran conversaciones de interés [No Conversations of Interest Recorded]: 2018, Flam; 2019) and Sol Picó (WW - We Women; 2015) to La Veronal (Voronia; 2015; Pasionaria, 2018; Sonoma, 2020), among others. He was awarded the City of Barcelona Award in 2009 and the FAD Sebastià Gasch Award in 2013 for his artistic and intellectual career.
