This is the second guitar concert and lecture in the “De Miguel Llobet a Ramón Montoya” [From Miguel Llobet to Ramón Montoya] series, two performances at the Museum of Music kick off the festival organised by the El Dorado association in Nou Barris.

The Desvarío Flamenco series, organised by a well-known flamenco association in the city, is back at the Grec Festival, starting with two opening events at the Museum of Music. Titled De Llobet a Montoya [From Llobet to Montoya], it focuses on the importance of Barcelona in the development of classical flamenco guitar. El Dorado has long explored this subject, closely following the ongoing research into Miguel Llobet’s influence on the work of Ramón Montoya, particularly during the early 20th century.

It all kicks off with a lecture and performance. We will hear from Javier Suárez-Pajares, associate professor and chair of the Department of Musicology at the Complutense University of Madrid, president of the Spanish Guitar Society, and co-director of Roseta journal. He will speak about Barcelona, un entorno romántico para la guitarra flamenca [Barcelona, a Romantic Setting for Flamenco Guitar]. The lecture will be followed by a performance by Carles Trepat, a guitarist from Lleida. Trepat is a distinctive artist who continues the rich Catalan guitar tradition and embodies the ideal of a humanist musician: performer, researcher, educator, and composer. He has released numerous albums and won prestigious international guitar awards, including at Toronto and the Francisco Tárrega International Contest in Benicasim, along with the José Tomás Honorary Award.

Desvarío replaced the Flamenco Festival in Nou Barris, which was founded in 2000 and ran for 17 years. El Dorado SFB has now taken over directing and managing the new festival in collaboration with the Nou Barris District’s Technical Services. El Dorado SFB is a cultural association set up in 2007 with the aim of creating a permanent space to promote and spread flamenco culture in Barcelona by viewing flamenco as a modern folk art.
