With music, but also with text, puppets, and projections, a company that creates high-quality performances for family and young audiences invites us to break the egg in an initiatory journey in search of a new beginning.

The creators themselves say that the target audience for this production is people aged 4 to 99, so it’s highly likely that it will speak to you no matter your age. It tells the Greek myth of a prodigious being with a long life, the Phoenix, who every five hundred years descends to the garden to lay an egg from which, amidst flames, it will be reborn. The story inspired one of Igor Stravinsky’s most famous compositions, The Firebird, which is the musical foundation for this performance. The composition is played on the piano and through electroacoustics while being staged through text, gesture theatre, masks, puppets, and projections, all in exciting journey in search of the essences of life. Where is the egg that the Phoenix laid, which has just disappeared?

Fènix was shortlisted for the 2016 Max Award for Best Children's and Family Show and won the Lorca Teatro Andaluz Award for Best Family Show. L’ocell de foc was created by La Maquiné, a company founded in 2008by two artists with degrees in Fine Arts and Visual Arts and Design, who have gone on to create culturally enriching experiences for children and young people, combining visual, gesture-based, and musical elements. They have used puppet theatre, object theatre, physical theatre, gesture theatre, and masks to create stage productions based on works by composers such as Ravel, Falla, Debussy, Montsalvatge, Mompou, Stravinsky, Satie, Poulenc, and Ligeti, among others. The company’s most recent productions include Parade, el circo de los valientes [Parade, the Circus of the Brave], Estación Paraíso [Paradise Station], and their latest show, Salvaje [Wild].
