Gènesi
Oriol Bellvitge
Bring the little ones along, as you’ll be creating a world in this space. But be mindful of your actions, as everything has consequences. Responsibility and environmentalism for young audiences. Winner of the Institut del Teatre’s 2024 Adrià Gual Award.
A journey of exploration where little ones will become set designers, shaping a new world from scratch through play, scenery, and teamwork. While it’s fun, it also comes with great responsibility. Depending on their choices, the world they create could be wonderful or it could fall victim to climate change. The aim is for the children to understand just how much human actions and activities impact the environment around them. Humans can have a negative effect, but they can also be a force for change, and with new attitudes, they can create a better world. The audience members will become active participants in the performance, leaving their theatre seats to get involved and build a unique, ephemeral set representing this new world. Inside the theatre, they’ll find various materials to create all kinds of things.
Three performers will lead the activity, engaging families and posing several questions. Would you prefer a world with lots of trees or just a few? What will you do with the waste? Every choice you make has a consequence, teaching you about the importance of sustainable development, not only in the world you’re creating, but also in the real world.
Gènesis is designed as a family activity where children take centre stage, but it also provides a safe space for the whole family. Each child must be accompanied by an adult, as both children and their companions will build new connections during this experience.
The show was dreamt up by 30-year-old Oriol Bellvitge, who trained at the Rogelio Rivel Circus School and earned an undergraduate degree in set design from the Institut del
Teatre and a postgraduate degree in stage technology. He has been involved in educational performing arts projects and has collaborated with theatre companies led by creators and groups such as Júlia Barbany, Cris Blanco, Escarlat, and the Las Huecas Collective. In the dance world, he has also worked with LaSadcum.
This show is particularly recommended for children between the ages of 6 and 12.
Children must be accompanied by an adult (a maximum of four children per adult).
This project won the Institut del Teatre’s Adrià Gual Award in the 2024 edition.
