New stage of work to separate the tracks of the Trambesòs
As from 15 January, preliminary work gets under way to build the new tram layout, connecting all lines in Av. Diagonal by C/ Ciutat de Granada. Changes will be introduced to mobility in the area to minimise disruptions.
The first stage of work should execute new services and the new surface and overhead power lines for the tram, which will operate along Av. Diagonal, with C/ Ciutat de Granada to be permanently closed to traffic between Gran Via and Av. Diagonal. Access to and from the car park at the shopping centre will not be affected.
Lane closures in Av. Diagonal
As from 16 January, the disruptions will reach Av. Diagonal, with work occupying the side nearest the sea and closing two lanes of traffic between C/Ciutat de Granada and C/ Badajoz, leaving just one lane free.
To facilitate traffic from Glòries heading in the direction of the Besòs, the direction of C/ Ciutat de Granada will be changed between Av. Diagonal and C/ Bolívia, meaning that vehicles can follow a route along Badajoz – Bolívia – Ciutat de Granada – Diagonal.
The work will also need to occupy the central section at a later date, leaving a space 3.5 metres wide for pedestrians. This stage will affect the bike lanes that run along the sides here. To keep cycling routes available, a two-way bike lane will be set up in the lane contiguous to the pavement nearest the mountains in Av. Diagonal, between C/ Ciutat de Granada and C/ Badajoz.
Reorganisation of areas around Plaça de les Glòries
This work is part of the remodelling project on the side nearest the sea in Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, between Plaça de les Glòries and Rambla del Poblenou. The work includes the new tram layout, meaning the tracks in the Gran Via turn towards Av. Diagonal through C/ Ciutat de Granada. This should substantially improve the connection on foot between Glòries and Av. Diagonal.
The work is being implemented by Barcelona City Council and the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM), with an overall cost of 32.54 million euros. It should be completed in the spring of 2027.
