Via Laietana fills with activities this Sunday to celebrate the end of the works
Children’s entertainment, music, a swing dance, workshops, circus and magic shows, street games, parades by traditional culture organisations and more. Via Laietana is set to hold a grand celebration to mark the end of the work to revamp this avenue in Ciutat Vella, a process which has been ongoing since the start of 2022. The event is being held on Sunday, 29 June, from 10.30 am to 6 pm!

Via Laietana will be completely closed to traffic this Sunday to make way for the festivities there, which are set to take up the whole avenue from Pl. Urquinaona to Pl. Issidra Diallo. Activities will be organised in the road, as well as the large new spaces which have been created with the revamp, facilitating connections between neighbourhoods and making the street more people friendly. The celebration will also have two main stages, in Pl. Antoni Maura and Pl. Issidra Diallo.
The thirty activities include a chance to enjoy a concert by Xiula or a workshop and concert by The A Swing Band. Besides learning how to dance swing, there are also workshops and breakdance displays with Breaking Barrio Activo, circus with Encirclant, magic with El Rei de la màgia, and a chance to be a festive devil with the Ball de Diables Barcelona – Revenenedors.
Street games are also in store, TMB will be joining in by displaying one of its oldest buses, and there’s a photography exhibition to see what Via Laietana was like in the past. There’s even a picnic space where people can relax in the shade in Pl. Ramon Berenguer el Gran. Throughout the day, there will be parades along the avenue, such as those by traditional culture organisations from the Federació d’Entitats de Cultura Popular de la Barcelona Vella, or the rhythm and percussion of Nexart Percussion and Sambe Kings.
