Chocolate Museum - Gremi Provincial de Pastisseria de Barcelona
Carrer del Comerç, 36
The Chocolate Museum is housed within part of the former Convent de Sant Agustí, an 18th century building on C/ Comerç. The centre takes us through the history of chocolate from its origins to its arrival in Europe. In fact, the city’s port was a key element in ensuring the supply of chocolate to the rest of the continent.
Research or outreach
Newcomers never know what to expect when they enter the Chocolate Museum: the museum is a sensory exercise that invites its visitors to experience and interact with this product. The museum is also a fantastic way to enlighten people as to the Catalan cake-making tradition, which is intimately linked to chocolate and artistic creation: Mones de Pasqua, the impressive chocolate figures that godparents given their godchildren on Easter Monday are an excellent example.
A shop that’s finger-licking good
Few can resist the temptations on offer in the museum’s shop: where you will find chocolate galore on sale in delicious and original creations. There are bars with fruit, with varying quantities of cacao, with olive oil, crema catalana and, even the traditional mel i mató [Catalan cottage cheese and honey]. Choosing is the hardest part. The Chocolate Museum is part of the Raval Cultural project, a collection of over three hundred cultural offerings from the neighbourhood.
