Nothing now remains of that first construction. In 1897 it was reformed according to Modernista canons: this is the building we know today. Also built at that time was the chapel, which was renovated at the beginning of the 20TH century in the neo-Gothic style.
A modernista cemetery
In the Les Corts municipal cemetery, some 35,000 square metres, are around 30,000 burial places. There are tombs from various epochs, some of which include beautiful sculptures. Among the monuments and mausoleums that stand out is Pietat de bronze (Mercy in bronze) by the sculptor Josep Viladomat, and the pantheon of the Repatriats d’Ultramar [The Repatriated Dead]. In addition, there is an area for the Jewish cemetery. Both the perimeter wall and the chapel within are Modernista in style.
Famous people
In this cemetery are buried famous people including the Barça football player, Kubala, the comedian Miguel Gila, the writer Prudenci Bertrana, and the photographer Agustí Centelles.
