Cork oak

Carrer de Ferran Valls i Taberner, 5

Observations:
This is a species which grows in silica-rich soil, and it is therefore unusual to find it in a developed area of the city, with a mostly limestone soil. At the Parc de Monterols, the large area and the lack of competition from other species, which would be the case if it lived in the forest, have permitted this cork oak to develop its crown freely and acquire an aesthetic and harmonious shape. It is the most notable specimen of cork oak to be found in public areas in the city of Barcelona.
