How can we create an oasis in the middle of a city? How can art become an oasis? How do our bodies interact with this oasis?

Oasis is a performance art installation designed to be a space for resting in the middle of the city.  Oases are spaces that emerge in the middle of deserts thanks to the groundwater flowing under the surface. Hidden, imperceptible currents give rise to a phenomenon in stark contrast with its surroundings.  Though oases may seem like anomalies within a desert, they exist precisely because they are part of this environment. Without water, deserts wouldn’t be deserts. Without deserts, there would be no oases. Without oases, there would be no deserts.

Oasis is a space occupied by art that invites all visitors to reflect on a conversation between space, light, sound, music, bodies and voices. It’s a place to spend time, to come in and momentarily suspend the surrounding reality. It’s also a place for living and seeing how we interact with it physically: How can we activate our own oasis? How do we traverse it? How does it draw us in? The installation can be visited throughout the day, and in the evening it comes to life with performance artists who inhabit it, traverse it and transform it.

Oasi was created by Irene Vicente Salas, who holds a degree in art history, specialising in the history of performing arts, and also studied directing and dramaturgy at the Institut del Teatre. She already visited the 2023 Grec Festival with her Corpus installation, which emerged from the Creació i Museus programme and was set up at the Catalan National Art Museum, and has also worked as a dramatist on shows by Àlex Rigola, Alba Pujol, La Súbita, José y sus Hermanas and Animal Religion.
