What the foc?!

You may remember the nine extremely powerful women who took to the stage of the Teatre Lliure in Grec 2023 to celebrate the strength and fortitude of Winnie Mandela. That show, Dear Winnie, was created by the trio Jr.cE.sA.r, an alphabet soup made up of Gerardo Salinas and Junior Mthombeni, a writer and a director from the KVS, the Royal Flemish Theatre of Brussels, who are now returning to Barcelona. They are undertaking an international collective creation project from scratch with a wide range of artists, based on an open call for participation and laboratory workshops. The result is a play that seeks to create a dialogue between art and the city of Barcelona. According to the creators, the city is at the centre of this fiery production: ‘A fire that feeds on dreams, bodies and stories. A fire that consumes everything we experience every day. It is chaos, creation, destruction, purification, past and future.’ 

The play explores the sacred nature of fire in different cultures, including Catalan culture, of course, and will draw on a wide range of artists who are a living example of the city’s diversity. In this way, the city becomes the fodder for a play, summoning these stories and these bodies from all over the world that burn tirelessly in a Barcelona fire ceremony that aims to define a new ‘we’.

What the foc?! is a multidisciplinary and multilingual creation that sprang from the partnership between the TNC and the KVS of Brussels.
