Central library
The future State Public Library in Barcelona will be located on land next to the Estació de França and will cover more than 16,000 square metres. It is scheduled to open in 2027 at a total cost of €55 million.
The State Public Library in Barcelona will serve as the city's central urban library, with a metropolitan dimension. It will have a capacity for 600,000 books and the public area will include reading rooms, information rooms, a room for access to the general and specialised collection, a children's and young people's collection, a daily press room, an events room, multi-purpose rooms, internet access points, self-service machines, a rest area, exhibitions, a bookshop cafeteria, an auditorium and a parking area.
With regard to restricted access areas, there will be specialised workspaces and rooms for housing works acquired by legal deposit corresponding to the works published in the province of Barcelona.
The facility will be state-owned and its management will be transferred to the Generalitat de Catalunya.
