Today sees 3,500 children in their final year of primary school, and from 106 schools around Barcelona, take part in the 24th School Biathlon, held at the Olympic Ring, around the Olympic Stadium and at the Bernat Picornell Swimming Pools.

The students will be competing in the two biathlon disciplines one after the other, with the swimming event at the Bernat Picornell Swimming Pools to be followed by the running event at the Olympic Stadium. The 50-metre swim will have starts staggered every five minutes, with participants then to take part in a run of 1,500 metres. Some schools will also take part in the Laser Run in the central square at the Olympic Ring, combining running and laser-shooting accuracy.

Fostering the positive values of sport

Children take part with a number bib on their shirts and a timing chip on their ankles, facilitating the organisation of the event and then the times and results. Results will be sent in an email, along with a feedback form and a diploma for having taken part.

This year’s prize-giving will be held at the auditorium in the Casino de l’Aliança del Poblenou on 14 June, from 5.30 to 6.30 pm, in a ceremony which seeks to highlight the positive values of sport, such as a teamwork, participation and gender equity.
