New voices in the Universe of Sílvia Pérez Cruz

Circular. Univers Sílvia Pérez Cruz

Jamboree   05/07 - 05/07

A young vocalist and a singer/multi-instrumentalist with Canary Island roots feature in a new session of a series of up-and-coming artists selected by Sílvia Pérez Cruz.

Sílvia Pérez Cruz acts as godmother to young new voices on the Catalan scene who have been part of her regular choir in recent shows. On this occasion we’ll be hearing young new voices with a very promising future, able to delve into a wide variety of styles and genres. They include the voice of Leyre Estruch, a young artist whose talent belies her age and who moves naturally and effortlessly through jazz standards, Brazilian sounds, boleros and more, adding a fresh touch and fully enjoying herself.

With her, we’ll discover another voice that combines this talent with performances on several instruments. Born in the Canary Islands, Julia Rodríguez bases her repertoire on traditional sounds from her homeland and South American folklore, but who also performs original songs and her own compositions. The list of artists in this programme is rounded out by Carmen Aciar, an Argentinian living in Barcelona and creator of Historias Mías, an album recorded with Horacio Fumero on the double bass and other musicians. Her songs speak of nostalgia, but also of the joyful side of migration. Argentinian folk has clearly left its mark on her songs.

A 2024 Barcelona Grec Festival production.
