Having a baby in Barcelona: parenting & new work-life balance

parents talking with babies

If you’re expecting or just had a baby in Barcelona, this series of sessions is for you!

You can access useful information, learn about resources for you and your family and connect with other people going through the same experience.

We’ll cover different stages over the course of two sessions:

- Pregnancy and birth

  20 March 2024

- Parenting and a new work-life balance

  24 April 2024

Each session will include a presentation on available resources and practical tips for each stage. The second session will also include mobility exercises to improve your posture and relieve tensions linked to pregnancy and postpartum. At the end of each session, there will be time to connect with other parents or carers with the goal of gradually building a support network.

Having a child transforms your life in many ways. Your new family life will mean adjusting to your new role as a parent, while at the same time rediscovering yourself and finding time to enjoy the process. Going back to work is often a difficult stage. Time is scarce, and you may experience mental stress or even depression as a result of the new demands of caring for the baby.

In this session, we’ll tell you about the municipal support services available for families in Barcelona, such as municipal parenting spaces and the public network of escoles bressol  (nurseries). We’ll also address the challenges of this stage and offer tips on achieving a new work-life balance and feeling fulfilled.

Following the presentations, we’ll practise some useful mobility exercises for improving posture and relieving tensions. Finally, there will be a networking opportunity to meet and share experiences with other participants.
