Having a baby in Barcelona: pregnancy and birth

If you’re expecting or just had a baby in Barcelona, this series of sessions is for you!

You can access useful information, learn about resources for you and your family and connect with other people going through the same experience.

We’ll cover different stages over the course of two sessions:

- Pregnancy and birth

  20 March 2024

- Parenting and a new work-life balance

  24 April 2024

Each session will include a presentation on available resources and practical tips for each stage. The second session will also include mobility exercises to improve your posture and relieve tensions linked to pregnancy and postpartum. At the end of each session, there will be time to connect with other parents or carers with the goal of gradually building a support network.

This first session will present the public services available throughout the process of having a baby: the pre-conception appointment, monitoring the pregnancy, the different delivery options at hospitals and other centres, home care and support for breastfeeding. Various services and support groups will also be presented: preparation for childbirth, conscious and active parenting, and postpartum.

All these public services are offered by the Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Units (ASSIR Barcelona/Institut Català de la Salut) linked to public primary care centres. The teams are made up of midwives, OB/GYNs, nursing staff and psychologists, among other professionals.
