Donation of two busts of Tomàs Benet Pessieto, work of Frederic Marès
The Museum preserves some portraits of children made by Frederic Marès (Portbou, 1893 - Barcelona, 1991) during the first third of the 20th century. They are portraits of his family or friends, such as the bust of his nephew, Josep Marès Ibáñez, which is on display in the Studio-library.
Around 1923 Frederic Marès received the commission from his friend Fernando Benet Rasbó (1880-1954), lawyer and collector, to make the portrait of his youngest son, Tomàs. Recently, Hélène Brieussel Benet and Elena Boissel Benet, nieces of Tomàs Benet, have given the Museum the plaster and bronze busts of Portrait of Tomàs Benet Pessieto .
With this donation, the collection of children's portraits corresponding to the early sculpture of Frederic Marès has been increased.
*In the Study-library of Frederic Marès, located on the second floor of the Museum, you will find “ Collector's papers ”, where a selection of images and documents from the Museum’s Documentation and Research Center is on display that illustrates the history of this portrait, from the commission to the donation.
