Group of kings with pages by Domènec Talarn (1812-1902) from the collection of the Associació de Pessebristes de Barcelona.
Domènec Talarn, author of these Three Kings with the Pages, was an outstanding sculptor and nativity scene artist of the 19th century in Catalonia. He trained at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where he was a disciple of the sculptor Damià Campeny.
One of the main characteristics of his nativity figures, beyond their beauty and sensitivity, was the oriental, Hebraic clothing they wore instead of the Catalan folk clothing. Initiator of the historicist school in our country, he was a drawing teacher and exerted a great influence on several artists, among whom Marià Fortuny, Joan Roig, Agustí Querol, Enric Serra and Linus Fèlix stand out.
The Frederic Marès Museum preserves in its sculpture collection three works attributed to Domènec Talarn.
