Conservation-restoration process of a crucified Christ from the 17th century, in polychrome wood
In 2016, conservation-restoration interventions were carried out for the crucified Christ on display in room 25 of the Museum, on the occasion of its presentation at the exhibition: The Golden Age The Age of Velázquez (Gemäldegalerie, Berlin 1/07/2016 - 30/10/2016 - Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung, Munich 25/11/2016 - 26/03/2017).

The work presented an exceptional state of conservation given that it has preserved the entirety of the original polychromy, without repolychromy from other periods as is very common in sculptural work. The conservation-restoration interventions carried out have allowed the recovery of the original chromaticism of the work and a better appreciation of its sculptural volume.
A preliminary examination of the work has been carried out using level light, ultraviolet light and observation under the stereoscopic microscope.
The conservation-restoration interventions have been the following:
• Punctual consolidation of weak elements of the wooden support.
• Fixation of the polychromy in danger of detachment.
• Surface cleaning of generalized dirt that distorted the chromaticism and volumetry of the piece.
• Pictorial reintegration of occasional losses of polychromy.
