Conservation-restoration process of nineteen Montserrat-themed objects
Between the months of October and November 2025, a series of interventions have been carried out conservation-restoration of various objects of montserrat theme of the Museum's collection with the aim of improve its state of conservation before being exposed to the temporary exhibition Montserrat, mother and land (29.11.2025 - 24-05-2026)
The conservation-restoration interventions have been carried out to a total of nineteen pieces , which have been grouped according to the material and techniques of execution, among which are three in polychrome wood and one in polychrome paste on wood, nine pieces of graphic work on paper in different techniques and formats -photomontage, engravings and printed paper, among others-, five pieces of goldsmithery and the metal appliques of a piece of furniture.
For the pieces in polychrome wood and a water fountain made of polychrome paste on wood, a surface cleaning, cleaning of the pictorial layer and other elements (MFM S-287), the fixing of the pictorial layer in danger of detachment, an evaluation of the elimination of possible repainting and the retouching with attenuation of possible losses has been carried out.
The conservation-restoration process of the nine pieces of graphic work on paper has consisted of mechanical surface cleaning, immersion cleaning, separation and removal of the support adhered to the reverse side, desadification of the paper by spraying, stain treatment as far as possible and assembly with passe-partout.
As for the five pieces of goldsmithing and metal , as well as the metal elements of a piece of furniture, the following conservation-restoration treatments have been applied according to the pathologies of each piece: removal of surface layers, cleaning, neutralization, drying, inhibition-protective layer and labeling.
