The conservation-restoration process carried out has allowed the recovery of the chromaticism of the work
A preliminary examination of the work has been carried out using level light, ultraviolet light and observation under the stereoscopic microscope, in order to determine the state of conservation of the support elements and polychromy.
The conservation-restoration interventions have been the following:
• Punctual consolidation of weak elements of the wooden support
• Fixation of the polychromy in danger of detachment
• First phase of surface cleaning of generalized dirt that distorted the chromaticism and volumetry of the piece, which has mainly allowed to recover the clear tone of the carnations and the polychromy work on gold.
• Elimination of occasional repainting carried out in previous interventions.
• Punctual pictorial reintegration attenuating the small losses of polychromy and pictorial reintegration of the front of the nose with a visible scratch technique in order to give unity to the face.
